Recently, I tried to install service pack 3. I got the no access error and
the install backed out. However, I noticed that my device manager was now
corrupted due to the install. So, I went back to system restore to try and
get back to period prior to trying to install svc pk 3. That didn't work
and my system got into a loop where it wouldn't boot at all, not even in safe
mode. Since I had the original windows xp disk, I first unplugged my 250 gb
internal slave drive so that windows would not try to install the operating
system there. I reinstalled windows xp using the original oem disk. The
original was only Svc pk 1. However, my virus protection was not compatible
with svc pk 1 and I was denied internet access. I also could not uninstall
the virus protection due to the incompatibility.
In the meantime, I hooked back up my slave drive only to find that windows
xp could not open it.
I found another version of windows xp that had svc pk 2 included. I
reinstalled windows again (again I unplugged the slave drive during the
reinstall).
Now when I try to access the slave drive, I get a semaphore timeout error.
I have purchased a restore files software to try and recover my files;
however, it appears that at some point windows xp assigned a partition to my
slave drive at the 137gb point without notifying me first or asking.
I still can't access my slave drive, I can restore files, but only up to the
137gb pont. I need to get rid of this unwanted, unasked for partition so
that I can restore my files.
I can see where the files are at in the file recover software that I
purchased, I just can't get to them
HELP!!!!!!!
Thanks, Laura
