I can access the Win2K server Microsoft UAM Volume folder
on my Macintosh and I can drag files out of this folder
onto my Mac's desktop. When I try to send any file from
my Mac desktop to Win2K folder, the Mac gives an error
message saying that the Win2K PC drive is locked. How can
I unlock the Win2K drive? Help please!

.

You do not indicate that you are a system administrator, nor your
entire operating environment, so I will assume you are not. The
permissions on the Windows 2000 server need to be modified to allow
your user account to read and write to the volume you are attempting
to modify. Contact you network/system administrator, explain the
problem/error messages and ask for the permission to access the
folder/data you need.

I am logging as system administrator and Mac OS 8.6 is the
environment where I am trying to send the file to WIN2K
server. Can you please tell me how to get the info
required, so I can check the rights and permissions?

thanks,

Ted

Ted,

Are you sitting at the server and working directly off of the Windows
2000 Server with the login of administrator? Or, are you on the
Macintosh, accessing the server remotely?

Joey,

I am on the Macintosh. I logon to the Win2K Mac Volume
through the Mac's network browser via LAN. I can drag
files out of Win2k but can't right to it. I am the sys
admin and I already checked all rights on the Win2K
folder serving as UAM volume and below.

SFM Volume Security is set to read-only. This setting is found on the share
in computer management under the General tab. It is on by default on
MS UAM Volume. I would recommend creating another Macintosh share and
leaving the MS UAM volume read-only.

I created a MACshared folder inside the UAM Volume,
should I create it elsewhere? I also forgot how to create
another Mac folder. Can you please tell me how?

thanks

Hi Ted!

For more detailed instructions I'll refer you to the Windows Help found
under the Start button. It's really very useful and detailed for what
you're wanting to know.

In a nutshell, you want to leave the MS UAM Volume alone because it is
shared only to allow Mac clients to download and install the UAM on the
client machines. It's not intended for storage of user files.

You'll go to the Computer Management console and right-click "Shares" or
"Shared Folders" (it's been a while for me) and choose to configure your
Macintosh settings. Here, you'll be able to select an existing folder or
create a new folder that you can share to Macs. You should share the
folder from a drive or partition other than the Windows system to
prevent users from filling up the server's system drive.

Hope this helps! bill

You can create any folder you want out of the UAM folder one's you' ve
created it you go to the administrative tools, computer administration, share
folders, share ressources you click in the right panel and with the right
button of the mouse you select new share ressource from that point you can
select teh folder you want and declare it share for MAC or PC.

Good loock!
