Dear all,

I need help on Replicating between 2 servers. Server A is
the root domain and 1st domain controller while server B
is the 2nd domain controller. Both reside in the same
domain. Let say i start to replicate from server A to
server B, an error message come out and it says "RPC
server is too busy to complete this operation", I found
the answer on microsoft website to resolve the issue, but
after i try it the problem still did not solve, but the
funny thing is that if i do replication from server B to
server A, it did not have any problem. This problem occurs
right after there was a time synchronizing issues where
the time in server B was different from server A, I refer
my time server is in server A, server B is following time
in server A. hope that you guys can help me to resolve the
error message stated above. Thank you very much for your
cooperation.

Hi there,

In this case, try to run the net time \\server1 /set /y to
synchronizing the time and check the DNS record - alias
name - see whether the server b record found the DNS
record in Server A

Chai

HI,

I tried that command, that was i found on microsoft

hope you have any other ideas. Thank you for your reply

Emma,

I will jump in here and offer my $0.02 worth.

I am assuming that we are dealing with only one Site. Thus, we are dealing
with an intra-site replication issue ( potentially ). If we are dealing
with multiple Sites, then we need to look at a few more things. I am basing
this response on a single Site environment.

Are you familiar with the Support Tools? The Support Tools are a collection
of tools that make your life a whole lot easier. They can be located in two
different places: on the WIN2000 Server CD in the Support | Tools folder or
on the WIN2000 Service Pack CD in the Support | Tools folder. I would go
for the Service Pack CD is possible.

Install the Support Tools on both DCs. BTW - great job on having two DCs.
Many people do not and end up wishing that they had. Of course, money us
usually that issue!

Once installed, on DC01 go to a command prompt and enter 'dcdiag /v
c:\dc01dcdiag.log'. Then, enter 'netdiag /v >c:\dc01netdiag.log'. This
simply runs both dcdiag and netdiag in verbose mode ( includes a lot of
information ) and redirects the output of each test to the c:\ to the .log
file. You can actually call the file anything you want. Then go to DC02
and run the same two tests. Open up each .log file using Notepad and search
for 'fail' and 'error'. What do you see?

You might also want to go to a command prompt and enter 'repadmin
/showreps'. This will show us the DCs in the and each DCs replication
partner. What do you see?

As is almost always the case when something goes wacky in WIN2000 we can not
forget about DNS. We can use nslookup for that as well as looking in the
DNS MMC. What do you see there.

However, the most important test to remember is PING! Can you sit at each
DC and ping the other via IP Address? via NetBIOS name? via DNS name?

HTH,

Cary

Hello Cary,

I hope you still remember this mail; it was honored to get
an advice from Most Valuable Professional person. Thanks a
lot for your advice, at least now I know where to look for
the error and answer. I think this is one of good advices
that I get from a person in Newsgroup. Well I got a lot of
errors from DC1 and none from DC2. You are correct, both
of them is in the same site. This problem occurred after
time synchronization problem because DC 1 was referring to
external time servers. After that happened, I got the
error stating that "The RPC server is too busy to complete
this operation". Well when u asked me to try the dcdiag
tools, I tried and what I found out was that it stated "A
recent replication attempt failed: From DC2 to DC1" "The
RPC server is too busy to complete this operation". Then I
found out another error "The File Replication service is
having trouble enabling replication from DC2 to DC1... "
Well at least now I know where to look for in Microsoft
website for the answer. I tried ping and nslookup for DNS
and NetBIOS, they do not have any failure for both
servers. I think I will try to look for solution tomorrow.
It's nice knowing you Cary, but if I do get stuck, is it
fine with you if I asked another question in another time?
Thank you.

Regards
Emma
