Patrick

I own a toshiba notebook satellite 3000 series and I have
recently upgraded my OS to Win2k, previously WinME.

Upon completion of the installation, along with service
pack 4, I found that the PCMCIA slot was not functioning
although the drivers were apparantly installed. There are
also currently 2 yellow exclamation marks under the device
manager, other devices, pci device.

Note that the pcmcia card used worked fined with WinME OEM
recovery CD provided with the purchase.

I tried finding for the drivers on the net, and browsing
through microsoft library... but still unable to find the
solution.

I have read somewhere that it might be due to the power
management of win2k. Also, there is an article on the
Microsoft Knowledge Base;

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q2
65/2/96.asp&NoWebContent=1

but when I tried installing the hotfix, it says that the
current version of the service pack is later than the one
intended to be installed and the installation is aborted.

According to Microsoft, this problem was suppose to be
fixed in service pack 3 or later, but i am still unable to
get the PCMCIA slot to work.

Device: Texas Instruments PCI-1420 CardBus Controller

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for help in advance.

So where are the yellow exclamation marks: on the socket controllers, or on your pcmcia cards?
Have you updated the BIOS to the version that properly works with win2k? (ask Toshiba support)

Hiya... Thx for the reply. The yellow exclamation marks
are located within root folder "Other devices".

Note as well that under the root folder "PCMCIA adapters",
there are 2 "Texas Instruments PCI-1420 CardBus
Controller" installed;

I can't understand why there are 2 uninstalled periperals
(each time I remove restart, and search for drivers, it
pops back as ?-"PCI Device"); drivers should be the cause
as service pack 4 is installed.

My gut feeling tells me that it must be due to the power
management of win2k; installing service pack 4 does not
help, though the patch states that it addresses this
problem. ( wait for service pack 5? )

BIOs has been updated; but there are no statements on the
readme or text notes regarding OS supports.
