Hi all, been lurking around this group for a long time now and I need some
help. I've finally fired up my machine after 3 slow months of piecing it
together. It consist of the following:

Antec Plus660 case
Asus P4P8X mobo
Pent 4, 2.66 cpu
Seagate SATA 80gb HD
MSI FX5600XT Video card
Corsair TWINX512 PC2700 ram
Sony CRX300 DVD/CD-RW
Sony 3.5
Sony 17" Monitor-CRT

Anyway, I fired it up and everything looked good, started to load windows
then it stopped for a while then the following screen popped up:

Any ideas what could possibly be wrong with this thing? My bubble has
really been busted from months of waiting for this moment and I desperately
need some help. Thanks in advance for your help.

After I posted this, I realized I jumped the gun and tried to load windows
without formatting the hard drive. I feel pretty stupid right now. I
loaded the HD CD and rebooted, it started to go thru its steps and then
stops before it gets to the menu where you click on 'setup hard disk'.
Something flashes on the screen real fast, then it says to remove disk and
reboot computer. What can I do to fix this? Did I really screw up the HD
by not formatting/setting it up first? Any help out there for me?

U didn't do anything that would have damaged the HD. I take it you HAVE rebooted the machine as it suggested. Same thing happens on
every attempt? What do you mean LOADED THE HD CD?

What OS are you trying to load?
If it is XP, set your bios to boot from the CD and you can partition/format
your HD from there.

Yes, I have rebooted the machine and nothing happens, just a screen that
tells me to put a disc in the bootable drive. I do that and the whole
process starts all over. The HD CD is the CD that I discovered after my
mistake. It is the Install CD that came with the HD, supposed to take me to
a menu to setup the HD but it doesn't make it that far. I also just
downloaded another setup programs from Seagate from their website and it
does the same thing. Any ideas?

I'm trying to load XP. My Bios is set to boot from the CD. Thats what got
me in this mess to begin with. I tried to load the OS before setting up the
hard drive, formatting it and such. It started to load XP and then sits
there for a while then displays that message. Is it possible to take my old
HD out of my working computer, put it in my new one as my primary. Then
setup my new HD with that? I don't know, I guess I'm desperate.

Got a W98 boot disk? If not, google for it, then set the BIOS to boot from
floppy and run fdisk. Wipe all partitions and then set a new primary
partition. If you get error messages, then I would suspect a bad HDD. If
no errors, then try loading XP again.

Sounds like a corrupted bootsector -- time for ClearHDD.exe --
or boot from older Microsoft OS
at the prompt type: fdisk /mbr00

I just tried that and I get the message 'error reading fixed disc' should
this work? my hard drive has files or DOS on it at all so how can I run
commands like Fdisc? appreciate your help.

I tried to run clearhdd.exe and it wouldn't work. I tried to reboot the
computer with the disk with the file on it and got a error message. How can
I run a command like clearhdd.exe with no DOS or other files in my HD? I
tried booting with an old win98 boot disk and ran fdisk, didn't work, again
because my HD has no files to run commands. I even tried to load DOS so I
can have some commands and it tells me the HD is not writeable, of course it
ain't, cause I goofed and now I cannot even access the setup HD utility on
my HD install CD...I think I'm losing my mind..but in a weird way, I kinda
like the challenge as long as I didn't mess up my HD with my lack of
patience. I really do appreciate your help and if you have any more ideas,
I'll try anything.

Update....I managed to get a 'A' prompt by using the win98 startup disk,
then I put in the disk with clearhdd.exe on it, ran the command and it did
it's thing. I then rebooted with the install CD for the HD and IT WORKED!!!
I loaded Win XP and I'm up and running.. Thank you for your help and I will
definetely add clearhdd.exe a part of my toolbox. Thanks again

Well, I'm assuming you know that during the early phase of loading XP (you
didn't say which OS you're using) It asks you if you want to load any "3RD
Party Drivers From a Floppy". It has you hit one of the "F" keys, and then
you insert a floppy that you've previously made that contains the SATA
driver for your motherboard. Then you continue your installation.

Good Point ,You know what>,, he may have one of those situations where the SATA drivers are on CD and the option of 'a' is only
available.
