Hi,
Right now we are looking for the relaibility study of the disk, tape,
magneto-optic disk etc. which are primarily involve in the mass
storage.
Our requirement is any of the tape or above device data to predict the
relaibility.
I'll deeply appriciate if anyone can help me out to get the data or
pointer.

Thanks & Regds,
Babi

What volumes are you looking at? What timeframe?

As for MOD, there basically is no reliability study. It gives you the
media rated bit-error probability (extremely low) and > 50 years
lifetime for that probability. Nobody knows how long these media
live. A Phillips enginner once told me they think > 80 years, but that
the accelerated ageing models get shaky for that number. However, MOD
is limited to 2.3GB/disk for 3.5" (5.25" is 5GB, but not as common, so
I would advise to use 3.5").

For the other optical formats only DVD-RAM has any reasonable
reliability, look to what the vendors publish about their
meda.

As for tape, you can believe what the vendors tell you, as long
as it is professional tape (i.e. not QUIC or DAT).
