Need Help: Movies won't play on my DVD player

I am having a lot of pain with movie maker and my new media center PC. I need
some help: Movie Maker 2.1 generates .wmv files that the computer can play.
But how do I burn a DVD that my regular DVD player will read? Here is what I
tried:
- Chose the DVD option in movie maker... it first digitized my "project"
into a 2GB .wmv file (which took 2 hours) then tried to convert that files
and for over an additional hour, kept on cranking 90+% CPU power with no
progress on the completion tab (not even one little bar). Why? Would it have
eventually moved forward? It really did look like the computer was running
around in circles, although not "hanging" in the windows sense of the way.
- I then tried to save the project to computer. It took another 2 hours to
hours to generate the .wmv file to disk. I then tried to burn the file to a
DVD, which technically completed. However my DVD player does not want to read
it.

Ah, this is so frustrating. Anyone knows the solution?

thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,

You might want to also post on the microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter
newsgroup, as your version 2005 of the MCE is the only one that has the MM2
option of burring a DVD.

Just a few data points in case this is useful:
- Dell Dimension 8400 Media Center
- 3GHz P4, 1GB memory, virtual memory extended to max = 5GB
- SP2, Movie Maker 2.1
- wmv file is 2GB after being saved to computer from initial project file
(which itself is only 3MB, pointing to captured saved "raw" content from DV
camcorder)
