My laptop model is an HP Pavilion dv5t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC
P/N KQ574AV.

The error says that I have to empty my TEMP folder (Which folder is
that?), shut down all programs (I think I did) and check my Internet
connection (for Internet based installs) (I downloaded the file and tried
to install it from my hard drive. Keep getting the same error. Tried
the HP Forum but am not getting anywhere. Can someone help please?

Where'd you get the sound driver and why do you need it? (Do you need it -
or is this just an upgraded driver you want to install?)

Where did you get this driver?

I suggest going to the maker of the sound card and downloading the driver
from there.

One way to find out where your temp folder is to open a command window and
run the command
echo %temp%

But you could just run the Windows cleanup program. Click the start orb &
type Windows Cleanup, which will appear in the menu before you even finish
typing it. Uncheck everything but Temporary files and click on the Clean up
button.

I lost my sound when I installed some MS updates. This has happened
before - but now, I can't fix it. All indications on the computer tell
me that the sound should work. Last night, I installed the original
sound driver that came with the laptop - but I still don't have sound. It
appears that, when I install some things, they interfere with the sound
and I don't know where to go from here.

From the Recovery Partition that came with the original drive.

Thanks, I'll try that.

If you're interested, I explained my dilemma in my previous response to
Shenan Stanley.

I would use CCleaner to empty all TEMP folders.
Make sure you know all your passwords before running CCleaner because it
will clear them.

Thanks - that's exactly what I used.
