Background:
Recently I brought home my Dell computer from work as my company went under and that was part of my severance. The computer at work was set up on a network that downloaded software updates, etc. every time I logged on. Since I had no use for that anymore I was trying to get my start up to log me in without having to go through this process. Therefore, I right clicked on "My Computer", went to "Properties" and was in the "System Properties" folder. I clicked on "Network ID" and the Network Identification Wizard came up and the first question the came up had two options, "This computer is part of a business network and I link with other computers in the network." or "This computer is for home use and is not part of business network". The default chosen for my profile was the first option but I chose the second option to try and bypass all the network programs at start up.

Problem:
Unfortunately, since then I've been unable to login to my user profile that I had at work and do not have access to all my files. I know that the user profile is still on the computer because if I open the "User Profiles" menu in the same "System Properties" folder, there are two profiles now, the one one I'm currently forced to log in (Administrator) and a second called "Account Unknown" which has significant memory usage.

Help Needed:
How can I gain access to the files in my old profile?

Thanks for your help...Kerry

Can you logon as Aministrator or call someone that will give you the user/pass?
Reset your user name and password.
Have you tried blamk pass on unknown?

use the Linux boot disk to reset the 'Administrator'
account password

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

or download Lopthcrack (demo)at
http://www.atstake.com/research/lc3/index.html and
depending on your local policy, run it and crack the
Administrator password

=====
or....try going to Start | Programs | Computer Management

then users/groups, select yourself, 'member of', and try
placing yourself in the 'Administrators' group...you will
need to be part of it, then you can go into any profile on
the machine.

You will need an account with Administrator rights to set this up
