Windows XP Pro LAN running 3 computers with a cable modem and router.

This morning I discovered I could not access the Internet unless I bypassed
the router and connected the NIC card directly into the cable modem.

I also cannot access the router setup program via 198.162.1.1. I've tried to
power down and reset the router but still no luck.

Suggestions please.

Jim

Hi Jim...isnt the address for the router 192.168.1.1?
Maybe you just typed it wrong here but usually that is
what it is.

It probably croaked, but try powering down and leaving it off for
a minute; they take a long time to fully reset. Then, watch the
router's LEDs as it powers up to see if they go through the normal
sequence.

There were some comments about Linksys routers being rather susceptible
to power line transients, and I've seen a couple blown (maybe by
A.C. stuff, maybe not)

It is Posssible your Cable company may have started
blocking NAT traffic. Check with your cable company
before you start taking thinga apart. I have heard of
some cable companies cosidering this.
are all 3 coputers have the same symptom?
Which Linksys router do you have?

How can a cable company do that, Sandman? What companies are doing
it?

With a NAT router, all traffic from all of the computers appears to
come from a single computer with a single IP address.
