I've purchased an entire hymnbook on CD-ROM that uses PowerPoint. Each
hymn is a different powerpoint slide. I simply want to copy all the
verses/text and make a text file to use in MediaShout for our church.

When I'm in PowerPoint, I can open up the files, but can't seem to
figure out how to select and copy all the text. I've done this before
(somehow) in the left margin, but the +/- boxes don't let me open up
to see the additional text.

What's the procedure for this?

Thanks for the help,

M

Did you try sending the files to Word and then copying from there?
Alternatively is the text on the master slide? Can you access the text from
outline view?

If the text isn't in placeholders, it won't show up in the outline pane
(which I think is what you're describing with the +/- boxes). In that case,
you won't be able to send the text to Word and extract it from there,
either.

Hm. Maybe one of the coders will have some routine that will export all the
text to a text file. Otherwise, you'll need to apply a slide layout that has
a bulleted text placeholder (Format | Slide Layout) and copy the text from
the textbox on the slide into the placeholder. Then you can select and copy
more than one slide at a time from the outline pane or you can use File |
Send to Word and choose Outline to get the text into a Word document and
copy/paste or whatever from there.

A lot depends on whether the text is in placeholders or just drawn "freeform"
on the slide.

This should help, though:

Export Text to a text file, extract text from PowerPoint (Mac or PC)
