I have a PC problem that I beleive no one can figure out! I had a friend
who's PC lost keyboard, I took several KB's tried it, same problem, than i
took another one of mine, took out the HD and booted up his PC with it, no
KB again, so I took his HD, out, and booted up my other pc with it, worked
good, than shutdown/restarted it, again, No KB! in it!. so, i stripped out
the MB and components out his, I put in a new MB, good cards, and the chip
out of my other pc, ( one I was using on this), put in new board, I slaved
his HD to it, to format, then took it out, set it to single master, and
loaded a fresh install of win XP, loaded up everything, worked good,
rebooted it several times all was good, now today took it to his house, set
it up, and guess what! no KB! when PC boots up, the 3 lights will breifly
flash, and system boots up, but keyboard will not work. any one know? any
help be greatly appreciated!

OK, it's kind of hard to follow this mess. But I understand two different
motherboards, two different hard drives, fresh OS installed, several
keyboards don't work. If that's right, try a new CASE. -Dave

sounds like dave is right, if the keyboard failed after a while on new mobo
but same case, sounds like maybe the keyboard port is shortin out on the
case somewhere.

had this on a mchine once and it kept resetting for no reason, turned out
ps2 socket was shorting out on blanking plate!

The PS/2 socket is part of the mainboard, changing mainboards changes it
also.

Right. But if I read the OP right, there are two different mainboards in
the same case with the same problem, not related to a mainboard or keyboard.
I suspect part of the case might be shorting out part of any mainboard
installed in it. -Dave

I've had this with a PS2 port. The earth pin/spade got bent and shorted
to the case.Didn't damage the port luckily and bending it back into
it's correct position and then carefully reseating the mother board
cured it.

HTH :)
