I have a Canon S820. When printing black it leaves lines. It prints
find on high Res. I have tried several regular cleanings along with
several deep cleanings. IT does not get any better.

I need a good solution and method for cleaning the print head.

Thanks for any help,
Debbie

I've recently had all sorts of smearing issues with an S-820 which is around
18 months old. Remove the head after easing out the cartridges and suspend
or dunk it in a very shallow saucer of warm water. The dye will flow
instantly and you may have to clean this in the sink several times. Then
substitute some Windolene (UK) or Mr Muscle I've found good: they both
contain a light ammonia solution which acts as a solvent for dye based inks.
Let it drain off then on kitchen tissue - and you will see the printhead
imprint on this tracing the different colours.
You may also find as I did that deposits of ink are below the cart head
seating so soak these up.
Worked for me.
If you suspect a determined encrusted blockage (Paper resins and encrusted
ink) then fill a spare cartridge with Windolene and print a few pages untill
the cleaning cycle prints begin to fade. That way you have cleaned from the
inside out.

Thanks, I will try that. I don't have any Mr. Muscle. I do have some
type of window cheaner or denatured alcohol I can use.

Well I just tried what was mentioned here and now my printer will only
blink with a orange light.

The orange light will blink 7 times and then the green blinks once
then it repeats.

Does anyone know what is means?

Thanks,
Debbie

I kept getting that and the manual suggests it is a paper blockage which I
didn't have.
I found it was ink residue at the base of the printhead and spare ink
sitting on the circuit board below that. Try dabbing it dry so that no ink
is visible on the shiny surfaces. I had to soak up ink several times...

I found it being pretty much the same thing. After I had tried
supending the print heads in a window cleaner for a few minutes I was
getting this blinking error. I let the print heads sit out and dry
over night and it is now fine, except it is back to what it was doing
before. The black will not print in normal mode, I get lines. It
prints fine in high res though. Right now I'm soaking the head in
denatured alcohol for 24 hours then I will leave it out to dry for
another 24 hours and see how that goes.

I will let you know what I find out.
I'm just gland I didn't ruin the print head.
