Hello .. I'm not 100% sure if I can do this so I would need some assurances from experienced network admins
I implementing a Win2003 server and wanted to do all the configurations offsite (my home). My client is on a peer to peer and their ISP gives them a static public IP address for their Internet connection. (They are finally going with a server
I have a cable modem connected to a Netgear router with an IP address of 192.168.0.1 with DHCP disabled. (This was the only config that I changed, Netgear automatically configured itself with my ISP) My Win2003 server has an IP of 192.168.0.10 gateway 192.168.0.1. I've set up DNS forwarding to 192.168.0.1 and succesfully connected to the Internet
Now here's where I'm unsure, if I tell my ISP that we are now going to be using private IP addreses and I want their router to have an internal IP of 192.168.0.1 can I just plug the WIN2003 server that I configured at home in my clients site and will be succesfully connected to the Internet? I'm not sure if I need to give other instructions to my ISP? Any suggestions
Thank you for all your help
