I like to keep my computer on all day but I think it is causing my electric
bill to be high. If I go into control panel and select power standby to
occur, it will disconnect my DSL connection.

Is there another way (besides turning it off!) to save on electricity with
my computer?

I am not sure, but I think your monitor uses more power than your
computer. You can have your monitor go into a standby mode
automatically after a set time of non-use, and it will come on again
if you press a key - I think the monitor I have now doesn't shut all
of the way off, but it does go into a save-electricity mode for easy
startup when a key is pressed, and then some might shut off all the
way.

And I don't think that a computer that has a 300 or 350 watt power
supply is always using 350 watts. I'll bet it is much less most of
the time if you have one hard drive. I'll bet a light bulb takes up
as much memory. A friend of mine, who is power crazy, this is totally
unnecessary, but he has 3 computers networked together for just his
use alone. And he leaves then on 24 hours a day, yet I haven't heard
him say anything about his electric bill. But I'll bet he shuts off
monitors (or has them set to shut off automatically after 15 or 20
minutes of non-use).

I use a flatscreen monitor which uses minimal power, but my spare one is a
17" CRT, and is rated at 120V/1.6A, 240V/.8A, which approximates almost to a
200W globe consumption.
Turn it off when not in use.

Usually, you can simply turn the monitor off when you
leave. It usually doesn't matter whether it's on or
off to the computer, as long as it's been running
properly to begin with.
Try it, and if it turns on incorrectly when you get
back, then toss out the idea. I bet it works though;
it always has for me, thru several different brands in
fact, here and at work.

A DSL router (Linksys, etc) will keep your DSL connection up and let
you set your PC to hibernate when unused. It doesn't draw much power.

There are lots of them on ebay.
