I purchased a computer with Windows ME on it and have had
nothing but trouble. I removed Windows ME and installed
Windows 2000 Pro. Everything is working smoothly except
that I cannot get it to detect the modem. I have tried to
locate a modem driver for it, but I cannot. What am I
missing?

Hi Marta,
What kind of modem is it (manufacturer and model)?

The best resource for updated modem drivers will be the manufacturer's
website. If the manufacturer is no longer in business, I'd suggest searching
on Google or similar search engine, on the manufacturer and model number,
and the word "drivers". Often you'll find a third-party site which still
maintains a database of older drivers.

When you say you can't get it to detect the modem, do you mean that the
modem isn't showing up at all in Device Manager? If it's there, but just
doesn't have a driver installed (indicated by a "!"), the device is being
detected by Windows.

If it's not showing up in Device Manager at all, it could be a faulty modem,
or one that's incompatible with Windows 2000. Check the hardware
compatibility list at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/server/howtobuy/upgrading/compat/default.asp.

Hope this helps!
