Need copy of winlogon.exe

I am a victim of the AVG anti-virus glitch. I updated my definitions and then
it found the flooder.AKE bug. I clicked on fix it and then it reset the
computer. It was then stuck in an endless reset loop. It evidently deleted
the file C:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe. It stays in an endless reset loop
even when started in safe mode or any of the other modes on that page. I
wrote AVG an email but they couldn’t be bothered because I was using the free
version. This is a computer that someone gave me so I don’t have any OS
disks. It was using XP PRO SP1. Does anyone know of a way to get a copy this
file? Even if I get a copy of this file is there a snowballs chance in Hades
that it would work?

Don't know where you can download that file, but even if you could you
would need a way to write to your hard drive - not easy with no XP CD
if you're formatted NTFS. Suggest you beg, borrow or steal an XP
installation CD and follow these instructions:

To Extract a file using the Recovery Console

Insert your Windows XP CD and restart the computer.
At the prompt 'Press any key to boot from CD', press Enter.
Windows Setup will load. This takes a few minutes.

After Setup loads, press R on your keyboard to enter the Recovery
Console.
At the prompt to select 'Which Windows installation would you like to
log onto', on your keyboard press the number of the installation. This
will usually be 1 unless you are dual-booting.
You will get to a prompt C:\WINDOWS

You now have to locate your CD drive. The CD drive letter will depend
on if/how your hard drive is partitioned and the number of CD drives.
To do this:

Type D: and press Enter
If there is a valid D: drive type in dir

You are looking for a listing of files that will look something like
this:
AUTORUN.INF
DOCS
DOTNETFIX
I386
etc.

If D: doesn't give this result try typing in E: followed by dir
If E: doesn't give this result try typing in F: followed by dir
etc.

When you have located the CD drive type in the following:

expand i386\winlogon.ex_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 /y

(Note the spaces: after expand; before C:; before /y
and that's a letter i in front of 386
and that's an underscore after ex)

Press the Enter key.
You should get a confirmation that the file was expanded.

Restart the computer by pressing the power button, remove the CD, and
boot up normally

If I had a copy of C:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe, can't I just use the
setup disk to copy from A:\ to C:\windows\system32? I have already used the
setup disk to see that the file does not exist.
