I have 4 sticks of CORSAIR 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) and a
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor processor and I need a good motherboard that
I can run windows7... Does anyone have any decent recomendations?
Good & SDRAM . . . is bit of contradiction. Buying a board, actually
paying "good" money for it, that's 4, 5, 6 years out of date is a bit
dicey in my estimation. Things that've been sitting around on shelves
for years and years are suspect, when, comparatively and for the same
ballpark pricing, something else new is to be had.
A $9 MB, like this . . .

OTH, may be worth dicking with a $4 processor provided it's
supported. [Dicking: What happens when it doesn't work and you may
be out shipping, or whatever.]
With that much memory, you've up to four 512M systems. I know, I just
put in an extra stick for 1Meg on XP and still have an extra (the 4
mem-slot AMD ASUS went belly up and the other Intel 478 is only a 2-
slot config).
Gee...for $20 and a 2Meg DDR2 config, one would almost be out of the
Dark Ages in terms of present DDR3 standards.
Never looked at W7, but if I did I might be thinking in terms of
Newegg's standard offerings (nix the open box, returns, and
recertifications). Which can be low-end, true, but without concerted
effort, at least they be mostly on the extant end of hardware skews.
SDRAM really is the killer, here. Bite the bullet on DDR2 at least if
you plan on spinning out of that rut. May have some luck over at
Ebay, although it isn't one of my favorites for necessarily all
hardware, such as directly marketed out of China or Singapore.
