Need advice on how best to change hardware in Vista

I installed Vista Ultimate OEM shortly after its release, and quickly
decided to upgrade my machine as my gaming performance has taken quite
a hit - especially BF2142 on 8800GTX.

Unfortunately, since I am on the end-of-life AMD939 platform, this
means a new motherboard and memory as well as CPU. There are no
significant upgrades for 939 from a 4800X2.
From what I understand (well after the fact), I cannot upgrade this
machine's motherboard as far as Vista is concerned, because the OEM
release will only work with the core hardware which was there upon
install.

Am I completely SOL?

If so, I will probably just reinstall XP, because I update hardware
often and cant afford disposable licenses.

XP has complained a couple times about upgrades but nothing a phone
call to MS didnt solve, as annoying as that is.

I don't believe that you will have problems upgrading, although it might
require a phone call. Search this newsgroup to see if anyone else here has
tried it yet.

being against the wording of he EULA is not the same thing is NOT being able to.

if necessary just call microsoft and tell them you did a few upgrades.
