I have WindowsXP professional and I want to use the computer to see TV and
to record the programs to a 300Gb external hard drive via Firewire.

Can someone advise me where to find suitable software and hardware to
install so that I can see and record quality TV and record suitable
programs, and also to preset the recording just like a VCR recorder.

I am new to this.

Please help, Frank

Any TV Tuner card should come with some software but for real "Tivo" like
facilities, you should purchase Windows Media Center 2005 and stop using
Windows 2000.

Frank...

Last week I went to eBay, searched on "TV Tuner MPEG" and ended up buying a
"Philips 7134 w/t03 remote". Card is GREAT... I just installed the card,
installed the card drivers and WinDVR (from the CD)... and, so far, I've
captured a tape from my Analog Video Camera (Composite), a DVD from my DVD
player (need S-Video cable tho), and short (15min) and longer (hour) shows
from TV cable.

Video quality is pretty good, audio depends on your sound card, instruction
book really sucks, there is NO manufacturer website to get info and no
manuals. I'm still looking for a hardware manual but InterVideo refuses to
send a manual cause the software was bundled with the card. BUT... so far...
it's all been SIMPLE to install... takes a little "thinking" and "common
sense" to get over a few humps.

Current problem I'm working is with MovieMaker... I have an hour of WebCam
video... with three separate family functions. MovieMaker imports, tho it
seems to zip along too fast for my 2-cents. MovieMaker will NOT divide into
"scenes"... usually just aborting.

Once I can resolve MovieMaker... or move on to a non-M$ product... I'll
check out the FM-hardware on this card. It was $25 with $15 shipping...
there are lots on eBay.
