I need a small favor. On the chaintech site, there is a new BIOs version that will allow me to enable cool n quiet, which i would like to use. Problem is, the read-me for the how-to i cannot read, my PC keeps saying its corrupted.

Could somone go to the chaintech site ( Just google for chaintech - pick europe - click on download at the top of the page, and there is it ) and e-mail it to me or post it here?? Firefox wont let me paste on here, sorry about that ^_^

I will be very grateful to anyone who will do this for me!

I haven't a clue which MB you are on about ... could you tell us?

To be honest with you I wouln't bother ... it was designed for Laptops to help keep them Cool-n-Quiet.

Cool 'n' Quiet is a feature in AMD Athlon 64 that reduces the working frequency and Vcore when the processor is not under heavy load in order to lower the heat dissipation. This feature has never appeared in desktop CPUs before, though it has been used in mobiles to save on battery power for a while under the name PowerNow! for AMD and SpeedStep for Intel. CnQ can drop power consumption to less than 50% in idle or low load conditions. When combined with an intelligent thermal fan control mechanism (either built into the motherboard or external to it), CnQ can be an quick and easy way to make a quiet, very powerful PC.

Although the AMDs 64bit CPUs are 89watts power consumption (Thermal Design Power (TDP)) they actually disapate this heat quite well ... anyway, there are other 'constrants' to using CnQ, one not least in getting it to work in the first place.

My mistake not naming the motherboard!

Some people say its not worth it for a desktop PC and others say it does. I wanted to try it for myself, but the file is a BIN. and i have no idea where it has to go.

Last night, i was in the process of buying delta fans and that, lol...got caught up in the upgrading whirl.

yer a bin file sounds correct that what u need to upgrade the bios the bin file along with a programe to flash the bios needs to go onto a floppy disk, then u need to restart with this disk in
but DONT DO IT IF U DONT KNOW WHAT U R DOING!

i did a bios upgrade once my mate told me what to do over the phone!
it was well scary!
