I'm thinking it is time to retire my Polaris Packrat 3.0 (on 5-1/4
floppies!). Even so, this program does way more than I need or want. I'm
looking for a simple, small (~1M) freeware or shareware program for storing
and retrieving phone numbers and contacts. I don't need a PIM for this use,
just a simple database with GUI and no bells and whistles. I've got a short
list of progs from Nonags, Tucows, and such, but wanted to know if any of
you are using something you like that would run on both 98 and XP. TIA.

The best I've found is Phonedeck. Small and fassssst! Really nice.

Maybe you'll like too. Look it over here:

Very Nice! I'll list it on my pages...

If however you want something less thorough .....

AZZ Cardfile I missed Cardfile in Microsoft Windows 95. Alternatives - MS
Scheduler, MS Outlook, various freeware or shareware PIMs were either too
complex or not convenient to use. I just needed simple small note-book with
fast items location possibility. I wanted something like empty cards -
without any predefined fields. Instead of using old MS Cardfile I decide to
make such PIM myself. This small application helps me now to manage phones
and addresses. It could be used as a small “database” for the references,
notes, recipes, … for everything, as any card file. Has dialer, email and
www. I Use It for a couple of different phone/address lists (just choose
to open that particular AZZ file)

On my Apps1 page or Here:
http://www2.omnitel.net/zdramys/azzcardfile/azzcrd16.zip ~970 Kb

Cheers!

Just an FYI, versions up to 1.6 are freeware. All others are not.

Thanx for the tip, SoS!!

You might want to try Custom Address Book Lite here:

<http://www.freebyte.com/addressbook/>

direct download for the freeware version:

<http://www.freebyte.com/download/addressbook.zip>

~315 KB

The program actually allows you to customize your addressbook. Read
about all the features on the page above. I use it on XP.

If you have access to Win3.1 just pinch the Cardfile.exe. It will run
on Win 9x and, I presume, ME. I have not tested it with NT, 2000 or
XP.
