Unfortunatly my NEC DVD-RW drive seems to have died a noisy death! :(

I need some ideas of what is good, as i dont know what is and what isnt.

Had a quick look on Overclockers and they seems good but if anyones got an idea of what would be a wise investment....

Cheers :thumb:

... there is only one

Plextor.

:thumb:

... I'll close the thread now then, yes?

Have to agree with Mucks that Plextor are probably the best, the only drawback being that they cost more - but you get what you pay for I suppose!!:thumb:

I've been using an NEC as well for several years and its been excellent, other cheaper makes which others seem to recommend are Pioneer and LG.

Vanilla - there's a review in PCPro Mag of the Plextor PX-740A HERE - they really rate it:thumb:

Hmmm.... Well thats kinda conclusive! ;)

I can see why, they do seem to be solid things dont they.

Cheers for the link Adywebb, that looks a good choice to me. :thumb:

Burning an 8.5GB dual-layer disc at an average speed of 7.5x, the Plextor finished a full ten minutes before the second-placed Samsung

That seems like its a lot faster than the others. :thumb:

Well i'll have a look about a bit later on,

Thanks so far guys.

Vanilla - I see the new Plextor PX-750A & 760A are due out in the UK sometime this month, so you may get a good deal on the 740A - and it should be pretty much bug free by now;)

Sweet, i keep that in mind, cheers. :)

plextor are by far the best - though on the cheaper side i heard good things about lite on for those of us that cannot afford plextor

I have a Pioneer DVR110D and an NEC 3540A, both dual layer, they both be fine.

Plextors are good, but they're pricey. I've also heard of some Plextor models conflicting with Linux Distros.

Also got a Pioneer A106 in an older system, single layer, over 2 years old, still going strong.

Yep it seems like the Plextor PX740A is the way to go.... Will let ya know how it is.
EDIT: Got the wrong model number first.

Cheers guys. :thumb:

Hehe, they actually deleted all the best ones ;)

Plextor are the best, no question about it.

If you can afford it, go for it :)

Flops - I saw some, dunno what had been deleted before i got there but you made me chuckle. :)

I am settled on the Plextor PX-740A (14th one down) HERE Unless anyone has any objections. :thumb:

£46.94 seems a good price Vanilla - can't understand why the next one below, which the only difference I can see from yours is that it has extra white and black bezels included has to cost £28 more though!!

Ady, yeah, its a shame because i would have preferred it in black but i aint prepared to pay an extra 28 quid for the pleasure!

Got the shipping conformation today so should have it tomorrow! Yay!! At last i'll be able to play CoD2 again!! :D

I got it!! Installed today, only 10 mins non crunching time!! :D

Right time to play CoD......oh it seems so long ago!

What's it like then? Nice and smooth? Sturdily built? Good looking?

Just noticed, you and I have very similar spec, same CPU; Vid Card; memory; CPU cooler & PSU. You have taste ;)

But mine's running at 2.4 :p
