My task tray is loaded with icons. Is there a way to make windows xp
allow it to expand indefinitely so I can view them all when I need to?
By that I mean that right now when I click on it to expand it would
still only show me a limited amount of them and the running
applications would not all show. Otherwise, do you know of a good
replacement application?

I can not use the windows task manager (ctrl alt delete) for that. I
don't want to see running tasks per se, i want those little task icons
that i can right click on and such (you know, the one in the bottom
right corner of a default windows installation, containing the little
clock).

Thanks.

Right Click the Start Button > Properties > Task Bar > Customise > and then
mark all the icons to *Always Show* think that might do it...

Make the taskbar bigger. Just drag it up to the size you want. Yeah, yeah,
it covers too much of the screen - so set it to auto hide.

You might also want to consider moving it to a side rather than the bottom.
Things on it display much more neatly and logically than when it is at the
bottom.

You might try Object Dock. Don't know if it makes more room, but it sure is
cool looking.

Personally, I try to avoid clutter in the Systray. It means too many apps
are running concurrently.

Tray Wizard might help. Now shareware but I downloaded the last freeware
version. Don't have a URL though.

I was thinking about recommending Tray Wizard also but had the same
difficulty in finding a working link. If anyone is interested, I have
the traywizard403.exe install file (421kb) and can email it.

Have a look at Kana Launcher. It puts one icon on the taskbar which when
clicked shows as many icons as you wish.

Alternatively, make a folder (or more than one) in the QuickLaunch section
of the XP taskbar, next to the start button, and put shortcuts to the
programs required in the folder(s).

I use both methods, one for frequently used programs and one for less used
ones.

Hi Mike - TrayManager 2.0 might help.

Hide little-used tray icons. FREEWARE WIN95/98/NT/2000.

OP asked for a program for XP -- I'm not sure whether TrayManager works with
XP.
(Note: Your top posted reply re-positioned to accord with usual ACF
practice -- I hope this doesn't start up the usual flaming!!!)

Yes, I've recommended it to XP users a number of times, and AFAIK no one has
ever reported that it doesn't work in XP. As to top posting - you're free
to organize what you post in any manner you wish. So am I. I top post most
of the time for reasons which I deem sufficient, and I ignore any blustering
about it unless there are specific rules in a forum concerning it. However,
since I've been posting in this newsgroup for years, and no one has ever
before mentioned any "usual ACF practice" of bottom posting, I suspect this
is your own invention, and I think I'll just continue to top post. Thanks
for sharing, though.

Incorrect assumption.

Fine.

Thanks

No probs.

Hi Q - Well, I suspect our views of fairly frequently may differ a bit. <
top posting > comes up (apparently usually tangentially) on average about
six times a month in threads over the last 23 years and relevant to this
subject, that is excluding false hits, apparently only about twice a month
based on a quick look (1610 posts, principally contained in threads about
other topics, out of 191,000 posts during that period on a quick Google
search). Excluding this current thread, a Google of < top posting Jim
Byrd > shows only two relevant threads (excluding false hits) during this
period that have involved me - someone appologizing for top posting while
thanking me for a long post I made about treating with popups on 1/7/03
which he included in order to reference, and a reply, here:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=t...qb.82399$ao4.253178@attbi_s51&rnum=1&filter=0
that I made in response to a courteous request from Boomer on 11/04/03
explaining why I normally top post (which I must admit I'd forgotten about)
.. So I'll beg to be excused for not considering this a very frequent issue,
at least for me, and think that I'll end this discussion here with that,
since, as I said in that post, the "issue is an emotional one like religion,
politics, the best firewall and whether it's possible for Symantec to write
software which doesn't screw up your computer." I do appreciate the civil
tone that's been maintained, however. :)

If find this a bit confusing. Google has 23 years worth of Usenet
posts, but not nearly 23 years worth of a.c.f posts, so I don't see how
to get monthly averages over 23 years.

[much snipped]

Not so fast. ;)

Any chance I could talk you into not putting your sig above the full
text you quote? It makes all of what you quote part of the sig,
difficult to read.
