I need an 8GB ram, 64 bit system to do some device driver
prototyping under Windows 2003 Server AMD64 Beta OS.

Is there any AMD64 motherboard that has 8 DIMM slots?

Does anyone make a 2GB DIMM?

The dual Opteron boards all have 8 DIMM sockets (4 per CPU). You can also
buy 2G DIMMs so it's possible to put 8G on an single Opteron 1xx/Athlon FX
board. The 754 pin Athlon64 can't support more than 3 DIMMs but the new
939 pin Athlon64s, coming next month, will be able to support 4 DIMMs.

Only opteron smp boards like Tyan thunder series. Up to 10 dimm slots.
Does anyone make a 2GB DIMM?

Well, they saythe 10 dimm board will suport 20 gig, so draw your own
cocnclusion. I really haven't looked.

BTW, these boards aren't what I'd call cheap.:-)

A Google search shows some for $2000 a stick. Oy!

Not that bad, the price for Crucial 2G DDR 3200 Reg ECC is $1K, DDR 2100
is $900.
 
Good(I love spending my boss's money).

All my searching for 2GB DDR found things that were actually 2*1GB
pairs, matched, for dual bus systems.

Tyan thunder boards have up to 10 dimm slots. Eight 1G dimms in it
wouldn't be a problem.

Quite a few, but they're mostly high-end ($$$$) servers.
Examples include the Sun opteron 2 and 4-way boxes,
several of the HP ProLiant xx5 (5 on the end means
opteron) servers, etc.

2G PC3200 DIMMs are $1K each from Crucial.
