Need 32 bit depth settings

I am running XP Home SP2. XP was installed when I purchased the computer new
many, many years ago. I recently installed BookSmart software which
requires a minimum of 32 bit depth. However, my monitor (compaq FS740) only
allows for 16 bit or 24 bit options. Is there an upgrade or patch that I can
download to allow for a change to 32 bit?

And I'd like to know where to download that patch that turns a Geo
Metro into a Mercedes SL-<anything>.

Get the hardware.

I'd like to know just how much *observable* difference there really is
anyways (between 16 bit color and 32 bit color). Haven't seen a whole
bunch over here, at least.

In fact, I just leave mine set at 16 bit color, and figure at least some
apps will run a bit faster that way, since it is much less video memory
intensive.

The colour bit depth settings are usually controlled by the video card
drivers. Check and update to the latest video card drivers.

Thank you for this information. It's exactly what I was looking for. Thank
you for understanding that not everyone knows these things. That's what
these forums are for. Again, thank you very much.

This isn't an XP issue or one for your monitor. It has to do with the
video adapter, the video card, and its driver. You may find that upgrades
to the driver solve the problem, otherwise the card itself has to be
replaced. The underlying problem may be a hardware limitation.

Identify the video card, then go it the manufacturer's website and look for
the updates.
