NEC SilentWriter 97 won't pass WARMUP or RESET

I have a NEC SilentWriter 97 laser printer. As of yesterday
afternoon, it no longer prints. When switching from PCL mode to
PostScript mode, the printer never got past the RESETTING message on
the LCD display. I turned it off for a while, and when I turned it
back on, it hung at the WARMING UP message. I tried to reset the
printer to the factory defaults (by powering off, pressing and holding
Feed and Online buttons while powering on). The display showed the
FAC DEFAULTS ON message, but the printer never gets past RESETTING.

A few days ago, I got a TONER LOW message. I have a new toner
cartridge on order, but it hasn't come in. Might this be the
problem?? (If not, I might want to cancel the toner order...)

Does anyone have any idea what I may need to do to get the printer
usable again? (Terrell Mitchell - If you're out there, did you get
your printer working again back in '96?)

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Some follow-up:

The new toner cartridge didn't help.

Thanks to Terrell Mitchel for replying to my direct e-mail.
Unfortunately, his NEC SW 95 "just started working again", so he was
unable to supply any hints. (But thanks anyway, Terrell!)

I bit the bullet and ordered a new printer (HP Color LaserJet 2500L -
Nice). I may try to get the NEC going again, but I'm not gonna spend
a whole bunch of $$ to get a 10 year old printer back on it's feet -
probably temporarily.

If I could find some sort of technician's repair manual, I'd probably
give it a go myself, but I can't seem to find anything on the web.
I'd be VERY interested in any URL's anyone might be aware of!

I'll post a follow-up if I find anything useful to post.
