NEC DVD+R/W CD-r/w won't burn DVD + R

New Dell 8300 with dvd/cd rom (Samsung in second bay a DVD +r/w CD r/w will
not burn DVD + R Dell support lacking seriously Can anyone advise me how to
burn DVD?
 
Can you be more specific?

Specific type of Nec writer?
Burning software used?
Media brand used?
Burning DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW all ok?
