Using a NEC DVD burner from a friends computer. This burner works fine in my
system, gut on his comes back with I/O error. Burner will read DVD, and play
DVD but when it comes to writing the files, it comes back with a I/O error.
His mainboard is an ASUS P4C-800, he has CD burner, hard drive and the
other usual stuff.
I have an ASUS P4P-800, and this drive works fine on my system, performs all
the functions
Thoughts?
What software is he using?
I had a very stable system but had to reinstall everything. I had
problems with some ripping software until I changed from aspi layer
4.71 to an older 4.60 with some programs. That shouldnt affect NEro
etc though. But I did try various Roxio products the new Media center
they have because though I use NERO I still use Direct CD alot and you
can only install it if you have the main prog by roxio installed.
I started getting some blue screens etc intermittently. Of course
Roxio bashers will have a field day when you mention bugs like that. I
noticed that they have a list of issues about the new prog at their
site. They say Direct CD (drag to disc) the new version can read
opened packet written disks from the older Direct CD but cant write to
them if they wereformatted by the older prog.
They do however have had two updates. Dont know if they fixed that but
Ive been going over my DVD stacks which have lots of half written on
packet written stuff. I am having a bit of wonkiness and one disk
failed completely so ........not sure if its the disks which are also
not the greatest or the always kind of iffy DIrect CD especially with
the new version out and using it on half written disks from the old
Direct CD.
In other words try taking all burning software off etc and then
installing the latest version of the same software that works on your
system. Try Nero since its a free download - fully functional for 30
days.
