having lots of problems with the above cd /dvd drive. It will play movies
etc but when burning its either really slow or fails completely. To add to
the issue I have just tried to install a game and again it is really slow

can anyone help

When was the last time you:

Defragged your hard drive?
Ran a full antivirus scan with updated signatures?
Ran a full anitspyware scan with updated signatures?
Ran Disk Cleanup?

How much free space do you have left on your hard drive?

It is possible that the hardware does not recognize the speed
capability of the media. This could occur, for example, if the media is
a relatively new release.

I had a problem with my Lacie (NEC-3500ag) and one particular type of
new Sony disks, where it was writing at 1x or 2x (can't recall).
Switching to Verbatim disks (as well as several others) speeded things
up appropriately.

The solution would be to update the firmware, if such an update is
available, and/or try other media of good quality but not very new on
the market.

ok tried all the above...tried the firmware but when try to flash it says
target nd3530a is not found correctly...any ideas

I'm afraid I have no concrete ideas. I can ask questions, but I can't
think of what I'd do with the answers. For example:

- Is your drive internal or external? If USB, are you sure you are
running USB2?
- Do you notice the problem writing CDs AND DVDs?
- Which software are you using to burn?
- Is it slow with + AND - disks (assuming your drive caters to both)?

Just look on the label/case/disc ie..CD-RW, CD-R, CD+RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, etc..

Chris,
Try uninstalling Sonic and just use your ver of Nero and InCd and disable
the inbuilt XP CD wiz in the drives properties, recoding tab and see if that
helps..

Sounds like something worth trying.

And, it may still be useful to ensure that you are running USB2, IF
your drive is a USB drive.

Here is a quote I coincidentally encountered in another post:

"Do you have more than one burning software on your system? Its not
necessarily a red flag, but there have been reports of conflicts in the
past. In fact, a few years ago, I had a similar thing happen. Had
Record Now and Nero and kept having problems. Deleted Record Now and
suddenly problems gone."

This is in line with Jaymon's previous suggestion to uninstall Sonic.
Worth a try.
