Whist is a partners card game that requires excruciating concentration. It
resembles the
simpler Bridge somewhat, but has been around literally hundreds of years.

And, yes ... I did Google. Found no freeware games. Some rudimentary
lessons, though.

I taught my 12, 14 and 16 year olds (all boys) to play whist, not quite
as excrutiating as that may seem. Anyway here are two

I haven't tried either one, so can't recommend them....

Hi there ... try this: Whist 1.0.0 ... at tucows ...

http://games.tucows.nyi.net/preview/304412.html

I haven't downloaded it yet ... but the blurb for it says ... quote

This is a plain-trick game (without bidding) for four players in fixed
partnerships. Play it in a realistic environment against strong computer
opponents.

unquote.

Haven't played whist for many thousands of years ... so you'll have to try
it and find out whether it's any good or not.

Hope this helps ...

Best wishes

Thanx to those that pointed to two sites for a freeware download.

IMHO the best choice was: http://www.geocities.com/thanoscardgames/

Another called BidWhist was more like a learner's demo.

Still another suggestion pointed to a download from a URL in Portugal (.pt)
but couldn't get a viable .zip download package. I think it may have been
the Thanos game, anyway.

Earlier posts have already pointed to a couple of fine games, but thanks
anyway.
