An organization uses NDCLytec for its operations. The engine is
installed on a Windows 2003 Server. The client software is installed on
XP SP4. When logging into Lytec from the work station, all is well. If
we try to log into using Remote Desktop, we double click on the same
icon, and an hour glass appears momentarily, but the application never
starts. The application uses the Pervasive SQL engine, which starts with
Windows.

If the application is started before the work station is accessed with
RDP, the application works fine. If the application is started remotely
with pcAnywhere, it works fine. The only problem is that it does not
start when we log in with RDP. Any suggestions for a solution would be
appreciated.

Pervasive turns off remote access

By default, the Pervasive database will not work when remoting into the computer. (Don't ask me why, but first time I ran into this, Pervasive said, oh, yeah, we don't allow that....)

Fortunately, this can be fixed by changing one registry entry from 0 to 1 (or vice-versa, it's been a while since I did it.) This can only be changed by changing a registry entry (this entry is not available through the Pervasive Control Center.)

Unfortunately I don't remember which registry entry to change, but I remember that it is fairly obvious when you find it.

Just open up RegEdit, find the Pervasive registry entries and look for something which says something that talks about disabling Pervaisve through RDP.

You may be able to find which registry entry it is by Googling for it, or you could contact one of the older Lyte VARs who might remember.

Good luck.
