Navigation/shared borders strange error

Hi there, love the forum and have used it many times to help create/solve
issues I have come up with. I did not find my most recent issue posted so I
thought I would throw it out there for all you geniuses.

My website it www.omegalistings.com. The page I am talking about is the
Current Listings page, several times over the past few months when making
changes to this page it all looks fine but once published and checking the
"live" site there is a huge error. I have not one but two navigation bar
links! One at the top of the page as it is now and one just below the top one
slightly to the right and all of the other information on the page is gone.
Any ideas on what is causing this??? Each time this has happened the only way
to correct the issue is to create a new page and cut and paste from the old
then delete the old page, put in a new page in the navigation structure and
so on. I am really at a loss as to why and what is causing this. Any insight
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

Can't see the problem.

But if you are cutting/pasting to create a new page, you may be propagating
the problem if it's a missing tag or something like that.

Hi Rob,

Currently the problem is fixed; obviously I couldn't leave it as it was
since it looked so ridicules. I thought I was doing exactly what you said but
it isn't a continuous issue it only happens about every 2-3 months. Any other
ideas??

dunno, best would be to post the url when it happens again so someone can
take a look at it.

how are you publishing?
could be missing/misplaced tags or problem with FP extensions

Farra,

I, too, have had this problem. For some reason FP will just make two
pages in one (it's hard to describe, but you did a good job). The only
thing that I looked at was the file size. Most of my HTM files were
between 12-20k. I always keep a backup of the page. If I make a change
and notice that it's doubled in size, I know it's doing just as you
describe. I generally will re-boot which fixes it.

It is strange though, but you're not alone!

John,

Well it's good to know I'm not alone. It's really a frustration! I will be
sure to look at the size next time, I haven't done that yet since I am
usually in a panic to correct the issue before our customers start calling to
find out why their information is not showing. I do have back ups as well but
it usually happens when I have just made a change and am saving the change,
most times it's not bad since they are minor changes but sometimes it's a big
problem!

Rob,

The next time it happens I will save a copy and past the URL directly to the
page so others can see what it looks like. It is very strange when it does
happen since every time I was just making the same sort of changes/additions
that I make everyday but there must be something there to cause it to happen.

Farra

Oh you know, I forgot to mention our theory. A few times when this has
happened the changes have been made from different computers, not the laptop
I make the changes from everyday. We have thought maybe it has to do with
some FrontPage update that has not been made to that computer? Just a theory
but I thought I'd put it out there.

Make sure that user does a Publish from the remote server down to that local
machine prior to making changes to it and uploading back to the server when
changes are done.
