Using Outlook 2003, when I click ,for example, from Calendar view to Contact
View, I would like to be able to enter the first letter of the Contact name I
am trying to locate. However I have to first click on a Contact record and
then enter the first letter of the Contact in which I am trying to find.
How can I change this default?

That can't be changed. It's a matter of focus. Unless the window has focus
(which you establish by clicking an item), keypresses aren't seen.

I have the same issue and I usderstand the focus bit. What I can't figure
out, is that it was working and then quit. When I would select Contacts from
the navigation pane button, the focus would shift to the address card view
and rest on the first entry. I could then enter letters to jump or tab
around. This abruptly stopped a couple days ago and I'm wondering what I did
to disable it.

If you're using Outlook Today as your startup folder, when switching
folders, the selection of the item won't be active. You have to click to
make it active.

BINGO! Changed the startup folder to inbox, and it now has the focus in the
appropriate window when selected from the nav pane buttons.

Thanks.

I wish that would work for me. I DO have my startup folder set to the Inbox
but it still doesn't work. What am I missing?

Do you have a home page designated for your startup folder?
