Hi Steve -
1. Pages that are set in the Navigation view (ie, dragged to the proper
place) do not appear in the linkbars managed by FP in any of the designer
views, but appear on the remote website in the proper place. I conclude that
'structure' is ok, but FP processing of 'structure' is buggy.
2. Pages that are set in the Link Bar Properties dialog (home and parent)
appear in the FP designer views but fail to appear on the remote site. ('Up'
is missing).

Have you configured the linkbars to be based on navigation view?

Yes, this is the source of the bugs: navigation based on navigation view.

Based on the navigation view, FrontPage writes the file 'structure', stored
in _vti_pvt. The file looks fine, although there's stuff in there I'm
ignorant of. The problem is that FrontPage can't read its own writing.

Are you publishing to a server that has the FP2002 extensions, as they are required for some
features of FP2002 / FP2003 Navigation Components to work.

Thomas -

How do I ascertain the extensions that I'm using on the server?

There is a local problem as well: FrontPage doesn't show in the linkbar what
I'm seeing in Navigation view. Moving a page in Navigation view changes the
pages that are displayed in linkbars, not merely a change in position.

More detail: this is occurring in a site with 2 subsites. The main site has
812 files, and the subsites are 1065 and 218 files each. It occurs on all
pages of all sites.

1. To see what version of the extensions are installed on a server, open the root web in FP via http
, then Tools | Web / Site Settings

2. FP navigation, shared borders, themes, include page, search components only work correctly within
the root web or individual subwebs / subsites, they do no work across them. In other words, you can
not use a navigation structure from the root web in a subweb / subsite.

1. In my case, navigation is not working on my local machine.

The local version of FrontPage 11.6552.6568 SP2
Local version of server extensions for all sites: 6.0.2.6551

Server version of server extensions for all sites: 5.0.2.6738

What am I looking at here? And if I recall correctly, FrontPage 2003 isn't
supposed to need extensions?

2. Yes, right, navigation across webs has never been part of FrontPage.
We're not trying that at all.

Ok.

The 6.0.2.6551 are the FP design-time extensions
The 5.0.2.6738 is the FP2002 design & run time extensions.

You will need to contact MS Product Support, there is no charge if it is indeed a bug.
