Navigation Bar- How can I adjust the width to disply more charcter

I have been looking to expand the width of my Navigation bar so that I can
use longer menu descriptions. However I have been unable to locate anywhere
that allows you to adjust the Link Bar Properties for a greater width.

If you use decscriptions that are too long the text is simply truncated

Does anyone know how to do this?
 
Truncation only happens in Themes using images for the Nav bar
- you need to modify the theme to use larger buttons
