I have 32 bit Windows Vista and purchased the Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000
and it had the Vista decal on the box. The salesperson said that it was for
Vista. I plugged it in and it would not recognize the product. It simply
would not work. I downloaded the software and installed the software on my
machine.

I have turned my E Machine off and plugged it both ways and turned it on and
it still will not recognize the hardware and the keyboard simply will not
work. I get the error message: "Compatibility issue, this product only
works with Windows XP and 2000" when I try to install the software from the
disk. The box has the Windows Vista decal on it.

Help!

Have you tried the drivers from the MS keyboard website yet?

I downloaded the software from the site and installed it on my machine. It
installed the driver correctly. But I have tried to install the keyboard and
it still will not recognize the keyboard and it would not work. I have tried
connecting by UCB and an adapter but neither works.

If you can, try the keyboard on another computer. Also, this keyboard will
not work through a PS/2 adapter as far as I know..

Okay, I tried without the adapter several times and it would not work. I went to my brother's computer and it worked on his XP operated computer but he lives 5 miles away from me. I have tried to put the keyboard in my hardware but it has no category. I tried several ways but Install Wizard could not find the file on my computer and neither could I even though I have it on the desktop and in my downloads. I cannot find a keyboard in my Device manager either.

I assume this keyboard is not usable on Vista even though it says so on the
box. I don't know what to do about that. Thanks for your help, Mike. If
you can think of something else I can try let me know.

I am beginning to wonder if your USB ports are at fault. Do you have any
other USB device which does not work?

That is definitely not a correct assumption, I've got two of those
keyboards here, on Vista Business x64 and Vista Business x86 machines.

Does the keyboard work in the system BIOS?

Also, just to confirm, you are using a USB port, not a USB --> PS/2
adapter, correct?

Hi Kajunite,

If you have a PS/2 keyboard, plug it in and start your PC. Enter the BIOS
(refer to the motherboard manual) and check that USB legacy is enabled. Save
changes and switch off your PC. Remove the PS/2 keyboard and attach your
other keyboard. Restart your machine and attempt to re-enter your BIOS. This
is just to check the basic functionality of your keyboard and also to make
sure that your BIOS is set correctly. If you can enter your BIOS, then the
keyboard is functioning. Restart your machine and allow to boot up into
Windows. Open Notepad and type randomly - it doesn't matter what you type,
you are merely checking the keyboard. Note that there is no need to install
any extra software for a mouse or a keyboard - the in-built drivers are
perfectly adequate. If, however, your device has extra features then drivers
will need to be installed in order for you to make use of them. The latest
drivers for your device can be found here - make sure that you select the
correct device when prompted.
