I think that I can convert our single domain to native mode but wanted to
check on a couple of things before deciding on this.

We have all w2k DC's
Member servers are running W2k server.

Some of these will eventually upgrade to Server 2003.

Clients are W2K, XP pro and 3 win 98 computers.

Native mode will not affect the 3 win 98 computers as I understand, but to
be sure that I am sure I thought I would post it here first !

THanks

native mode will affect the 3 98 machines, unless you install the
activedirectory (adsi) thingy on them...

NuTs

so it will affect how they authenticate and access shared folders etc. what
is the name of the ad thingy or do you happen to know the kb article ?
Thanks for your info !!!!

so it only concerns the DC's. Since all of our DC's are win 2000 all is
good.

the clients don't care. cool !

Thanks

You can certainly run W98 in native mode and has nothing to do with
authentication methods for domain member computers. You can still use
lm/ntlm/ntlmv2 as before you change modes. Installing Directory Service
Client on W9X machines is recommended in ANY mode in order to allow those
machines to use ntlmv2 authentication and be site aware. Wins is needed for
netbios name resolution for all OS's as long as applications need it and
users continue to use My Network Places instead of Active Directory
publishing. --- Steve
