I was trying to use WINxPpro to help my friend but we could not connect in
any way. We tried remote desktop, remote assintance and vnc. But we could
not connect. Now we know that we both have NAT connections. Is there any way
to connect?
Thanks

To use Remote Desktop you need to forward TCP Port 3389 at your friends firewall/NAT/router in order
to connect. Call using the public IP of the firewall/NAT/router.

For Remote Assistance look at this KB article about connections with firewall/NAT/router devices.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q301529

Note you may need to install UPnP on both of your PCs...

1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
4. In the Components list, click Networking Services, and then click Details.
5. Select the Universal Plug and Play check box, and then click OK.
6. Click Next, and then click Finish.

Also, Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance both use TCP Port 3389...

Of course using Remote Desktop to access/control your friends machine presumes he/she is running XP
Pro. Using Remote Assistance to access/control your friends machine presumes he/she is running XP
Pro or XP Home.

For VNC you need to forward TCP Port 5900. Call using the public IP of the firewall/NAT/router.

Note that the VNC data stream is *NOT* natively encrypted. Look at using UltraVNC, which now has an
encryption plug-in, if you want to use VNC over the public internet...
