im not sure to had understood
nat forward from internet to a server at your lan
but a client thats wants to reach the iis only can trought the external ip
but not with the lan internal ip
its thart right

Dear All

I am using Win2k Adv Server as NAT server. All clients are connected to
internet through switch and Win2k Adv server machine. I have configured the
RRAS server as NAT. On NAT it is configured to forward ports redirection
onto different internal machines(like 10.32.123.4:8080; 10.32.123.5:8000)
on LAN to open the web pages but NAT server doesn't forward port redirection
at all. That's why webpages can be visited only on NAT server on
different port using the same routable IP address(like 218.92.240.23:80 /
8080 ). I am using IIS5.0 web server ,even I had tried APACHE web server but
it doesn't work as port forwarding redirection setting is fairly simple.
What could be the problem?

Thanks a lot !

You are right.
And I have exactly did the same thing. On external NIC, special port is
configured to forward port redirection to client(resource machine) on the
LAN but the port redirection doesn't reach to the resource machine, from URL
at Address tab on IE it can be seen that web page request is stuck at
external NIC IP address but doesn't reach to resource machine's IP address.
I have tried with a cheaper one hardware router with all other hardware the
same and it forward request to configured resource machine but the problem
is that it forward only one port redirection from its external interface to
any single machine on LAN not two or three but I am trying to make available
at least three web site with a single routable ISP provided IP address.I
have followed the exact instruction given at microsoft web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/columns/cableguy/Default.asp

You cannot use port forwarding to redirect traffic from the LAN to your
web server. Traffic will not go out to the public interface and be
redirected. When the frame arrives at the internal NIC, it has reached its
destination. It will not be forwarded to another NIC.

To access this web server from LAN machines, you will need to use its
private IP. You can do this directly using http://<IPaddress> or put an
entry in the local DNS, pointing to the LAN IP.

Thanks for you response!
In fact I not trying to forward traffic from LAN machine to Router external
NIC then again to LAN web server.
I have tried accessing the web page from outside of the LAN but request
stops at the external NIC address and seems Router is not port forwarding
the port redirection to desired LAN machine's IP address and configured
port.
As I have said a simple hardware router does it without problem.
Inside LAN, local DNS server opens the web page on the LAN machine or just
typing the resource machine IP address it works fine, but not from outside
the LAN.
Have you tried this setting at your place?
Hope I have described my situation well!
