I tried to narrate and am not getting any sound. I also tried to do pc to pc
calls. I can here them but they can't hear me. Is there a way to test my
microphone? It is a plug in headset.

Hi Laura

Certainly sounds like a mike problem. I had a similar thing happen once and
after much troubleshooting and frustration and performing 'percussive
maintenance' I realised I had flicked a mute button on the volume control of
the headset... D'oh!

Presuming you aren't as dim as me, you can try testing your mike through
Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Voice -> Test Hardware then
follow the wizard. Other help desk type advice would be to unplug it &
re-plug it, turn everything off and on, remove the hardware through device
manager & re-install, check for driver updates etc etc

Hope that helps

Ah. So I'm NOT the only one with this affliction.

As long as we're going crazy, it's nice to go in such pleasant company, eh?

Lucy,

THANK YOU:) I knew what but not how I'm new at this stuff and find myself
technologically challenged at times!

I had to give that up. I kept tripping over somebody's ... what? those are MINE?
who left them there? ... feet.
