John

In the Insert, Names, Define, menu box is a white box in
the box are a list of applyed names, sometimes the names
have the name of the worksheet that they are in, next to
them and some times they don't, when they don't the same
name cannot be uses in different worksheets. Does any body
know how to make them appear so the same name can be used
in different worksheets.

Thanks

Hi
What version of excel are you using. In Excel 2002 or
Excel 97.
When you define a name on sheet1, the sheet1 information
is automatically displayed in the "refers to" field at
the bottom of the window. If this is not included in the
Name you create it will not display as apart of the name
and can be used in any worksheet within the workbook.
I would suggested renaming to exclude sheet references in
the define names option and let all sheet refernces be
automatically assigned in the "refers to" field then you
can use the function on any sheet.
To my knowledge, no view can be display to change this
functionality.

Good Luck
Kathy

Hi John,

You cannot change a worksheet name to a workbook name, you have tom delete
the former and re-create. To create a workbook name, you use format like

myName

in the name texbox. To create a worksheet name you use

Sheet1!myName

but Sheet1 has to be active when you do it.
