This is insane. I listened to my 9yo daughter and said I would upgrade winxp
home sp2 which has been running nice to Vista premium. bad mistake! I
downloaded the upgrade advisor and it would never finish. I read and
uninstalled my pinacle card and TV card and turned off antivirus and firewall
and was finally able get it to spit out it recommendations. I then unistalled
about 10 programs that it had no data on and started the install. This is a
Dell Dimension 8400 Nivida 256md 6800 pci card 4 GB ram and SATA raid 0 300
gb HD. I know I need to update drivers for video card later. Well here is
what happens it copies files gather files and around 60% it shows an error
box that says "Windows encountered and error and can't continue" That it no
code nothing I tried this 8 times. This is insane!!!! any info to help before
I pull rest of hair out. (No I won't buy a MAC and I'd rather not wait for
the 1st SP Vista upgrade) Thanks

If I were to guess I would suspect the problem is your SATA Raid
setup.

1. Did the Vista Advisor nag about it?
2. Did you find and install drivers for it?

3. What do you mean by "you know you need to udate drivers for video
card later?

4. What do you mean that the Advisor "never finished"?

If you're doing a install from within XP you're actually seeing XP run
until you hit a critical point in the install where Vista tries to
take over on its own. You have not one, but two often serious issues,
a SATA drive made worse by running as RAID and perhaps a non Vista
driver for your video card. Vista is prone to choke on both.

Hi thanks for reply
in regards to advisor not finishing that was early before I took out pinacle
capture card and TV card after that it said I could run windows but listed
programs I should remove Which I did.
then vista advisor said about 5 programs may not work under vista but wasnt
sure pctools etc.
re updating Drivers -I used a site to update all drivers that I could.
How do I change the SATA raid setup??
interms of video card I downloaded the latest drivers prevista and then the
released vista drivers but you cant install Vista drivers unless you are
running Vista
