Name that IE7 feature....

What's the name of the feature that tracks the things you type into the
address bar and then populates the dropdown list of the last 20 you entered
as well as generating a list of past sites you've typed as you type in a new
URL? I'm looking for a way to clear that list, but first I need to know
what it's called.

So far I know it's not considered a "Form" because Clear Form Data doesn't
remove it. It's also not "Inline AutoComplete" because I've got that turned
off. It's also not "Search from the Address Bar" because I've turned that
off as well.

MRU (Most recently used). This tracks the URL's you type into the IE address
bar. These can be deleted by using the 'delete history' option in the
Internet options window general tab. Just click the 'delete' button in the
'browsing history' section.

While this is Microsoft's way of getting rid of the MRU's the details are
still available in the index.dat files on your computer. To completely clear
the MRU's I use CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) This is a free application which
clears more than the MRU's for better privacy. The only one snag is that, if
you use online banking, it will remove cookies etc which means you have to
put in your details each time you use the online bank. You can prevent this,
however, by making changes in the 'cookies' section of CCleaner options.

Thanks Brink, that helps somewhat...but there's still that dropdown list of
the last 20 most recently viewed, which I think John Barnett is saying is
called the MRU list for the address bar. In any case, this is a step in the
right direction!

EMK,

With IE8, when you highlight the URL there is an X to the far right of the
address bar that can be clicked to delete the URL.

With IE7 & Firefox, when the URL is highlighted, hold down the left 'Ctrl'
button and press the delete button. This way you can rapidly press the
delete button to delete the URLs.

What you say may be true for IE8 and Firefox, but CTRL(left or right)+DEL
does not remove highlighted items from the dropdown list in my IE7 browser.
