I entered all necessary info in a Contact File. When I try to send a new
email using this address information in the email name lookup this particular
contact does not appear.
Help

I'm non-tech setting up new computer with Vista Home Prem and Outlook 2007.
Contacts were imported and diplay properly but don't appear in the "Send to"
popup when I create a new message. I reviewed and followed resolution in
KB287563, but not completely. In the second item under Step 2, I cannot
select (it's grayed out) the checkbox "Show this folder as an e-mail address
book." Suggestions please.

Non-sequitur. There is no such thing as "importing Contacts properly."
Importing is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data. State what you
did. We have no idea what you did wrong until you tell us.

Let me try again. Originally, I used a Belkin Easy Transfer Cable to move my
email messages successfully from old to new. I can no longer recall if
Contacts were then not visible on the new pc or if it was just that the
Select Names box didn't show any email address data when I selected "To" at
the start of a new message. Plan B to move Contacts from old to new pc, if I
recall correctly, used the following steps in the old Outlook 2003:

File
Export to a file
Chose Personal Folder File .pst file type
Selected Personal Folders and include subfolders
Saved as .pst file to memory stick
Chose "replace dupes with items exported"

In Outlook 2007 on the the new pc I then chose

File
Import from another program or file
Personal Folder File .pst
Browsed to .pst filename on memory stick
Chose replace dupes with items imported
Selected Contact as the Personal Folder to import from
Selected Include subfolders
Selected Import items into the same folder in Personal Folders

The Contacts now reside on the new pc. However, when I start a new email and
choose "To," the Select Names box shows no Contacts data. How do I fix that?
In lieu of export/import, what is the correct technique to migrate Contacts
from old to new pc and have them link with the Select Names box?

As I said, you never use export and import to transfer Outlook data. You use
them only to convert Outlook data to another file type. Your data is already
in Outlook format. So you just copy your data file and open it in another
installation (Hint: File > Open > Outlook Data File...). Then you can copy
what you want from your old file into your current data file.
There is no way to know where your problem lies now since you imported your
data. If you're lucky, you may only need to enable your current Contacts
Folder as an email address book in its properties, then make sure you are
displaying that Contacts Folder in your Address Book view. If that doesn't
work, then you'll need to go back and transfer your data correctly.

I finally determined that my Outlook profile had been corrupted, apparently
due to a bug in the Belkin Easy Transfer cable. Once I created a new profile
and re-created my three email accounts, the problem was eliminated.

In current versions, importing an entire PST will corrupt the Outlook
profile by creating a ghost or duplicate PST file. In addition, importing
PST file contents will lose:
1. Custom Forms
2. Custom Views
3. Connections between contacts and activities
4. Received dates on mail
5. Birthdays and anniversaries in calendar
6. Journal connections
7. Distribution Lists

Opening a PST file will preserve all of these. That is why we do not advise
people to import a native file into Outlook. If none of these are relevant
to your situation, then by all means be my guest and import. Sometimes and
can and does work.

That makes sense. If you have a PST there is no need to import, simply add it
as a data file to your new Outlook profile.
But if you have an old PAB or CSV or other, then import is the only choice.
These do work correctly, correct?
