Name Home Page index.html

It seems my host wants our Home Page to be named index.html. It is
currently named index.htm. When I try to rename it FrontPage (2002), FP
says it cannot rename the file because "../index_files" already exists.

Can someone help me here?

It sounds like your index.htm was generated from a MS Office program other
than FrontPage. If this is the case it has generated a thicket - a file + a
corresponding folder containing images etc. used by that file.
To change the extension of the main file, you must rename it to something
completely different (this will also rename the index_files folder), then
rename back to index.html.
Since this is your Home page, I suggest you rename to default.htm, then to
index.html. This should avoid upsetting the web navigation.
