Are we allowed to name and shame companies on this forum ?

My take on it would be if you've been let down or had a bad experience with a company then you may outline that experience, without undue bias and truthfully, within the Forum's Retailers section.

Ranting about a company's practices, be they business or ethical, without any direct experience of that company, would be frowned upon.

Discussion on most subjects may also be discussed freely and intelligently within the 'General' section of the forum though common sense would dictate politics and religion should be avoided.

I'll just sharpen my pitchfork.

Flops post pretty much echo's my own views - by all means write up an experience with a retailer (positive or negative), as long as it's not a bashing thread :).

A mate of mines PC died. I didn't have time to look at at, so he took it into a shop.
Their diagnosis was the hard drive had died and a new one would cost X amount. He said no problem to that. They asked if he had product key for his install of W7, which he didn't have. No problem they could supply Windows 7 Ultimate ( what he had ) for £120. Not a problem he said ( more money than brains )
Since the repair he has been infected with a virus ( unsavory site )
Which I offered to sort out.
Upon restarting PC I noticed there is the normal Windows 7 just after POST, but also Windows 7 loader XE. Seems said shop have used an ISO and the some sort of crack to activate his OS and charge him an arm and a leg for.
They also installed M$ Office 2010, I wonder if they used a crack for that ?

>>>>>>>>> Retailer's section please ;)

But briefly, short answer would be to return to shop and demand legal MS activation code for Win 7 and also, if applicable, for MS Office.

As soon as he does first update for Win 7 one of the files will be a validation file, which will suss his installation is iffy and take steps to make his computing life a misery. Same goes for Office.

I'm locking this thread, if you wish to outline your friends' unfortunate experience > Retailers' section.
