Is there a way to name a group of sheets rather than individual sheets. For
example, if I want to do a 3D Sum it would be useful just to be able to use
the group name rather than the sheet range. Also it would be useful to be
able to quickly select the group when I want to type the same data into all
the sheets.
I use Excel 2003 and 2007

You can create a 3D named range in Excel 2007, I'm not sure about 2003.

Under Formulas tab, locate the 'Defined Names' group and click 'Define
Name'. Type in the name you want. In the 'Refers To' box, select the
existing content (including the "=") and then press the backspace key to
clear the existing reference info. Click the first Sheet for your reference
if it isn't the one already selected and then hold down the 'Shift' key
while clicking the end sheet for your reference. Release the 'Shift' key
and select the range of cells for your reference. Finally, click the 'OK'
button.

The name will not appear in the name reference drop down by the formula bar
but if you start to enter a formula in a cell, the name will be presented as
an option you can click to complete the formula entry.
