Hi all,
Please excuse what may be a naive question....

Is it possible to download full length movies and save them so they can be
watched on my laptop while I'm in flight?

If so, suggesting a couple of sites would be appreciated.

Well... it IS possible but there are a couple of issues...

1) It's illegal as hell... :) Except for a few commercial sites where you
can pay to download a movie, and 99.9% of their selection is REALLY bad :)
Certainly you won't get any blockbuster titles on these sites.

2) No airline I know of will allow you to use your laptop during flight as
it could interfere with navigational equipment on the plane

Erm, British Airways, KLM, Delta and AA and the Icelandic one (never
never again) allow it, and I think I remember my youngest son (He is in the
air very frequently) one airline offered data ports (at a cost of course)
But as far as using them I have been on all of those airlines (UK to USA
etc) and if they had a rule about it...they never said anything to me. As
far as I know it is only banned during take off and landings.

All the best.....

It's only prohibited below 10,000'... so when the seat belt sign is
illuminated for take off and landing. Hoever you should always check with
the airline in question, several have different policies.

The rest of the time it's fine, however 99.9% of notebooks do not have
battery power to last as long as the average movie.

The notebook MUST be carried as handbaggage and must be available for
inspection and X-rayed separately.... (out of its case).

Hmm... Interesting..... so.. if laptops are allowed, how come handheld games
machines aren't? Last time I flew I asked if I could use my GBA & got told
no! Loooooong boring flight too!!

Business class on Singapore Airlines allow you to use your laptop whenever.
Theres even a special plug in the seat for mains power if your battery goes
dead.
