When I start up my computer, I get a message after a beep that says that
Windows can't find Nail.exe and that I should search for it. I recently
deleted nail.exe using McAfee's. How can I get Windows to quit looking for
it?

Apparently McAfee did not get all the registry entries that are still
calling for Nail. I would not trust to McAfee alone but would also go
through these malware removal steps systematically:

This will probably take care of any remnants of Nail. If it doesn't, you
can use the System Configuration Utility (Start>Run>msconfig [enter])
but it would be best to make sure your system is really clean first.

This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting
locations of any startup monitor (A starting list of auto-run locations was
obtained from David Solomon's "Windows Internals" seminar), shows you what
programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you
the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones
in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. A "Hide
Signed Microsoft Entries" option helps you to zoom in on third-party
auto-starting images that have been added to your system.

You'll probably be surprised at how many executables are launched
automatically!

Autoruns works on all versions of Windows.
